Wow. I am shocked that a landmark like that is in any way restricted. I don’t blame you for wanting to be safe, but if it’s true that Italy would come after someone for using illustrated, stylized artwork of a structure that is so well known, that’s absurd. If anything in the world should be “in the public domain” it’s the ruins in Rome and Greece.
You’d think, right? I think it’s less about “owning” the image, so much as making sure the image isn’t tarnished.
If you’re not selling very many copies or at all in Italy, it is very unlikely they could do anything. They can’t just send you a fine in the mail.
I would like to think so! It was hard to find the details on it online, but I was annoyed by the situation and wanted to change it just to be safe and not have to worry about it.
