I Only Sold ONE Book at My Book Signing… The Reality of Author Events

I had another book signing! And it did not go well. There were a lot of things not working in my favor, which just goes to show you can never predict how an event is going to go. I was going to scrap this video since things didn’t go as planned, but I wanted to share the reality of doing book signing events and how sometimes it’s not a day full of sales and success.

  2. Thanks for showing the reality! I can’t stand when others only show the positive side. You kept it real and showed it!

  3. appreciate you for sharing this!! really valuable insight 🫶, its not about just the highlights but the whole package of being an author

  4. I’m glad you got to socialize and that it wasn’t a loss, but a nice time for you!! I appreciate you still posting the video 🙂

  5. That is disappointing. You’re right, no two signings are the same. Better luck next time.

  6. Thank you for being honest about this. Plenty of fakes who talk about how to make a billion dollars in five easy steps. I don’t have time for that nonsense. Would much rather listen to someone who is keeping it real.

  7. I will get one soon. I would like to read and see what I think…any suggestion as to the first one. ..???…Jeff

  8. Thanks so much for posting this, Mandi. In May I was invited for the second time to take part in a local author event (“Read Local!”) hosted by our main library. It was not a great day sale-wise. I finally sold one book as I was packing up at the end of the day — a person who had stopped by my table earlier and chatted for a while came back, saying, “I WOULD like to buy a book.” The part that made it feel like a success was that I was able to tell the other authors in our set-up area, who also had sold nothing the entire day, that it must have just been something about the day. Because I’d been there the year before and all of us authors had sold books. It felt great to have that perspective and also to be able to share it.
