I've always wanted sprayed edges of my books, but as an indie author, it can be extra challenging to create special editions of your books. It often involves ordering large quantities and a bit of an investment. What if you wanted to create special editions on a small scale, or just for fun? I did DIY special editions of my books in The Road Trip Snapshot series to do custom stencil edges of my books, and the result was so fun! In this video, I'm sharing a step by step tutorial so you can try making your own special editions of your books with custom sprayed edges!

Create Special Editions of Your Book – DIY Stenciled Book Edges
Search terms: sprayed edge books, DIY sprayed edge books, special edition books
I was trying to learn how to do this.
I hope you found the video helpful!
Thanks Mandi! This is so helpful! I have wanted to do sprayed edges for my Dark Fantasy romance series, now I think I will!
You should! It’s so fun!
Please add link to the spray paint you used 😁
I just added it to the description, but here’s a link to their website: https://ironlak.com/product/ironlak-acrlyic-spray-paint-400ml/
I think most acrylic paints would be fine though. I chose this brand because of the colors.
I’ve been wanting to do this, wondering how to go though a printer. I might have to just try it on my own. Also, a little girl showed me her copy of my book, and she had bedazzled it! Maybe I can do both and sell some special edition copies! Thanks for the ideas!
That sounds so fun! It’s really cool seeing your readers get so creative with their copies!
@ Yes! It’s the reason I write: to inspire children to fall in love with reading! Warmed my heart.
I would love for my books pages to look really nice like that. But I think it will be awhile before I can self publish.
Brilliant and beautiful!!!! 😍
Those are gorgeous. I’ve been wondering how indies do this.
This is awesome!
This is a great tutorial! Thank you! I want to use some of the popular romantasy (ACOTAR, TOG, fourth wing) series showing the sprayed edges as my mock up for my 3d layered bookmarks that I’m making soon. The special editions are just too much money. I have Procreate with all my sticker designs, Silhouette Cameo 5, vinyl, and already a book press from Amazon. As a small business owner, I really appreciate it. I will actually skip the messy part and paint on the stencil instead since I’ll be doing multiple colours (night sky, etc). Thank you again!
Cool edges of your books. Colorful.
