I’m glad you were able to find the deleted chapters! I would have started crying. When I was a teenager, I had a computer that would spontaneously freeze/shut down. It was so frustrating.

I’m glad your daughter is feeling better. I’m also glad you found the missing chapters. I had something similar happen to me once. I had a system crash and lost 10 chapters despite the fact I had saved multiple times. My beta reader saved me though. She still had a copy on her computer I’d sent from a couple of weeks before. I had to go through and redo all the edits, but it was better than recreating half the manuscript.
Thank god for beta readers! So glad you didn’t lose your work.

I’m glad your daughter is okay. When my oldest was about 2 she burnt her hands pretty bad on a BBQ grill top, so I understand the fear. I don’t think I’ve ever driven so fast to a hospital before!

MS Word’s version history has indeed been around for a while. In fact, it’s been recommended to me by writing pros to never, ever send a story to readers or agents as a Word document, because they’ll be able to snoop around the entire version history.
