  1. I just finished writing my first book and I’m trying to get it published it’s all so confusing thanks for breaking it down ❤❤❤❤

  2. I love your videos. They are always very detailed and well put together. Great job!

  3. Thanks, this was helpful. I published my first book in May and so far have only been paid out for sales in my country’s marketplace, not the other marketplaces (even though I know there have been sales), so I need to dive into KDP and see what’s going on there. I have a vague memory of needing to make a certain amount or reach a certain threshold before they’ll do a payout, which I thought I would have done by now, but time for a deep dive to check!

    1. This is my problem with using Amazon…they can do whatever they want and we are virtually blind, deaf and dumb to it because their rules and regulations for costs are so confusing.

  4. Thank you for the great explanation. I am still confused about royalty. When you calculate a 60% royalty rate, the royalty received on the KDP page you showed is less than 60%. (Manually, I subtracted the printing cost and calculated the leftover at 60%). Are there other fees other than the Amazon 40% cut? Thank you!

    1. You have to calculate the 60% royalty of the list price, not the cost after printing. ($12.99 x 0.60) – 4.96 = $2.83

    2. You explained the confusion precisely…
I know I won’t be changing Amazon…but I’m definitely seeking alternatives because I just don’t see how someone makes money when they take 40% off the top for apparently “Renting Virtual Space in Amazon World”….????
I don’t know where it goes and can’t find a clear answer anywhere. All they say is “60% is the Royalty Amount”…or whatever it is for each style of book sold.

Then Printing and other costs come off the %60 left over…
so Our cut is more like 30%???? Which means I have to charge people horrific amounts just to see any kind of profit for “MY” House.

Apparently it goes to Bezo’s Mansions & Yaghts First….

  5. Fans of this will love the new book “Land of Income: How to Start a Profitable Orchard” by Andy Reven. Absolutely stunning.

  6. Thanks, I just calculated that my 196 page book in color that I wanted to sell for $9.99 would nets me 2 cts per sale! Thank you KDP! If I choose to print in B& W, am I still allowed a color front page? Do they only count color pages within the book or if you have 1 color illustration and 195 pages in B&W, your whole book is considered in color with printing cost applied for color book? thanks

  7. why do they feel entitled to most of the profit when you price a book above 9.99?
