Also depends on what reading level the book is. Some of the best reading I have had is at above collegiate level and chapters can be up to 50+ pages.
Style, rhythm, order, sensibility and topical coherence, not forgetting grammar and punctuality, completes a definitive chapter!
I think something between 1000 and 5000 words. There exceptions but I really don’t like chapters that are much longer than 5000. I’m fine with shorter chapters, though.
And I think it’s perfectly fine to have different sizes inside the same book. I have chapters with more than 4000 words and chapters with only 1000 or even 800 words. Sometimes it just feels right.
