My best advice for self-editing is to read your first draft aloud; you will catch so many more errors that way. Also, get a physical proof copy and let at least one person proofread that before releasing it to the public. It is much harder to catch errors on a screen, and by the proofreading stage you as the author are too familiar with the material to read it without unintentionally skimming sometimes.
I practiced for years on fanfiction. Making the show or cartoon better your way, and I filtered the original ideas out and turned that into an original story with original characters.
I really appreciate your videos. I have so much difficulty in revisions. I have a dozen of more books in various stages of editing. I have spent money on dev editors too.
I feel like I need someone to hold my hand during the editing phases.
I’m not expecting perfection. However, my brain just locks up the closer the book gets closer to being done.
