5. We thought we were putting too much stock into one of our businesses for the return so installed cameras overnight. The very first transaction the next morning and the thief was caught! She even went passed on the bus as we were installing the cameras! Tried to say that her life was tough and we could not understand how hard it was for her – ours was harder as we almost lost the business! That was over 15 years ago and still makes me angry! (Ps. you would get my vote as PM!!)

8. Should have bought it back for £40 ordered more then put a camera over that particular stock.

   1. He can’t buy it back because he plans to claim it back with the company insurance.
      Is he paying people minimum wage or zero contracts.
      I detest people that break in to people’s houses and in not complaining people stealing but Does this guy think his company is an exception to products being stole. The UK is in crisis, people are trying to survive, it’s only going to get worse, look around you.
      This guy’s mentioning politicians when truth is, the politicians in the UK and Europe need arrested for they’re creating all this hardship. Ion fact let’s not forget the United States, jail them too. But this is the insane news world in it’s infancy

10. Decades ago, I painted for this company and started a painting business on the side.
    I’d borrowed my bosses equipment on the weekends to make extra money painting.
    Unfortunately, the sprayer broke. Thank god I saved my side hustle money. I bought 2 paint sprayers, one for him and one for me.
    That next week, he noticed a new sprayer. I can’t remember the dumb excuse I gave, but I had to damn near fight him to NOT reimburse me.
    I couldn’t tell him what really happened or I’d be fired for theft, but I’m also not gonna take his money to pay for my fukup.
    That was the universe teaching me a very important lesson.

11. I am in awe of how you faced up to this issue. Heart breaking but sadly very common and car boot sales take a lot of blame. You want to be a good employer and nurture your staff and then find a bad apple.

Beautician near me who sold very expensive face creams , had customers telling her they were sooo much cheaper on ebay , when she checked eBay , it was the receptionist who was her sister who was stealing things and selling on , ,when I had a pub , my best friend was one of the biggest thieves , this was before we had tills with records of sales ,

13. Horrible to deal with, the mistrust grows and festers through the staff as soon as it comes out. I had an employee defraud me 28yrs ago. Yes, that long ago, but I still reel thinking about it. Smartly dressed guy, mild mannered, nicely spoken, seemed an impressive performer. Turned out to be a total con man. It hurt a lot, both financially, reputationally, and emotionally.
    I absolutely took him to the cleaners, and then some, I was so angry after working so hard myself to get into a position to afford staff and build a business.
    These days when I hear bleeding heart comments react to events like this with sympathy for the perpetrator with “I hope they get the help they need” the red mist absolutely comes down for me! It’s the basics of knowing right from wrong, cheating someone for your own gain. Plain and simple.

    1. Most likely peanuts but you employ people and trust them. So even if it’s £5 you should lose your job as they can’t be trusted. Also peanuts can turn into thousands.

15. So the guy at the car boot was selling that whole tote for £40, so the perpetrator has lost their job and potentially got a criminal record for what, twenty quid? Not the sharpest tool!

Car boot sales are COMPLETELY out of control, they’re full of brand new stock completely brand new robbed from the highstreet, my friend had his whole van robbed with all his hand made clothing, it showed up at a boot sale days later, no one polices them at all, small businesses, all businesses are getting looted and litarally they don’t care, it’s just dreadful

    1. I agree. They were once a great place to find a random bargain or unusual item. Now they’re grubby and it’s ruined it.

18. So sorry to see this. I had a similar problem many years ago. I was a tree surgeon, running a small but proud business. Then my fuel was going faster than usual. Then chain oil. I know it doesn’t sound much but when you work hard it hurts more. Thankfully my crew got together and weeded out the thief who turned out to be the brother of one of my operatives. I didn’t get the law involved but humiliated him on line etc. He left the area. Best wishes for the future

19. I caught a senior staff member stealing our intelectual property!
    I insisted they accompany me to the local poilce station.
    Enroute they offered to pay for our loss and their immediate resignation. I accepted both.
    Sadly, we also lost our best sales person, as they decided they didnt want to be associated with the theft.

20. Ive experienced staff stealing from me on two occasions, that I know of, in the last 20 years. Police set up covert CCTV and monitored the premises 24/7 ultimately raiding the individual’s house at 6am one morning.
