Tom's Favorite Things List:
On this episode of Impact Theory, Tom Bilyeu sits down with macroeconomic strategist and author Lyn Alden for a deep dive into the current financial crosswinds shaping our world. With government spending spiraling out of control and the era of “fiscal dominance” upon us, Lyn pulls back the curtain on how unchecked deficits, runaway debt, and policy gridlock are fueling wealth inequality and eroding the middle class.
Tom and Lyn get real about the mechanics behind inflation—why it’s more a product of policy than a law of nature—and break down why the average person can no longer afford to ignore the “runaway train” of government spending. The conversation spans everything from interest rates and trade imbalances to the true causes of persistent inflation, the hard choices around entitlement programs, and why owning assets is becoming essential for building and preserving wealth.
Lyn doesn’t just outline the doom and gloom; she offers a clear-eyed look at potential solutions, the risks ahead, and practical investing strategies for weathering the storm. Whether you’re trying to make sense of the headlines, concerned about the future of the U.S. dollar, or wondering how to protect your financial future, this episode is loaded with timely insights you won’t want to miss.

1 Trillion every 100 days! We’ve been destroyed.
The last $1 trillion occurred over the last 48 days. 💀
It’ll be $1 Trillion per month in no time. Buy gold!
The younger generations get to pay it off.
@cabot100 no they won’t.. it will all fall and we will start all over again …
@@Mencha2321 yeah the last 12 years set us in this !! You’re not turning the ship around now ..
Lyn is of the brightest minds in macro economics, and capital markets. No one connects dots like Lyn – every thought Lyn expresses is worth listening to 3 times.
Well, one caveat – Luke Gromen’s pretty close in there as well. Love his interviews.
Unfortunately this host is not.
He should be a GOVERNMENT OF USA MONETARY CONSULTANT.. why isn’t this knowledgeable person a consultant??? (Well.. maybe the oligarchs don’t want to do the work needed??? 🙂
“one”
@@joanfrisinabowles1369 she’s actually not what she looks like (despite it being 2025). She’s married to a guy and lives in Egypt for part of every year, not MTF. I wondered about that the first time I saw her but I think more likely she’s in the situation where she’s ‘spergy’ but it helps her savant skills rather than hitting social skills.
One of the best macro thinkers around today. Very smart and very apolitical.

Lyn is such a gift! She is so awesome at explaining things in a logical and non political manner. I trust her, and I am grateful for the things I have learned from her over the past few years. Keep the great videos coming!
The problem with real estate as an asset in many areas that you don’t ever mension is that the property taxes eat away at all or more of your gained value over time. Finding tax free, or at least tax differed, or low taxed assets is key. It’s still a great idea to own a home vs. renting in most cases, just saying it’s not a great asset type compared to other options, unless you’re willing to do the work to make money off renting it.
Lyn is just amazing. Humility and patience rarely exhibited by such a rockstar.
Honestly, this concerns me and has left me uneasy. Especially this potential depression, no more a recession. I’m unsure about my $130K account strategy, considering the uncertainty of this whole recession mostly.
Just looked up her full name on my browser and found her site without sweat, over 15 years of experience is certainly striking! very much appreciate it.
Is it a man or a woman though ?
@@scottledeuce thats a man with long hair like a hippy
Lyn is just so damn talented. Wish the whole world would listen to this conversation
Without knowing previously of either of these people, I’d sincerely hope that Lyn has had conversations with far more insightful people than the host who, unfortunately, appears to be most interested in pushing a narrative.
I haven’t heard Lyn speak before. I really like her “matter of fact” way of speaking. She does a good job of not leaning on her “opinion” but just methodically describing the mechanisms of our monetary system.
Lyn is one of the best you can hear online… and I heard them all for the past 10y
He’s wearing a keffiyeh.
I wholeheartedly agree. Tom was trying to bait her at times, which I can appreciate also, but Lyn always comes back with factual, non emotional responses. Incredibly important to be a non emotional investor at this stage in the game.

Oh wow, this guest is incredibly smart.
Everytime I listen to this lady I learn something. I appreciate her ability to explain how markets and the government work and why we are in the current situation. No politics, no bluster, just calm respectful conversation. Thank-you.

My new goal is to understand something, ANYTHING, half as well as she understands macroeconomics and to be able to articulate that understanding with her clarity and confidence.
I’ve been trying for quite a while. Her book helps and I subscribed to her service. There is still so much detail in there and it’s not always easy to understand but I keep reading and listening and I’m slowly getting there.
Lyn and Luke made me believe the chart that lists economics as a high IQ field.. at the top there with Structural engineering 😅
Always love hearing from Lyn. She speaks with such clarity and I appreciate her sharing these insights….
She is a he
Lyn is a gift to the world. She is so sharp, eloquent and graceful with a wholistic world view. Fascinating
Don’t forget delusional. Or clever as hell. I don’t like either one. Excellent economist…
She?

What’s so fascinating about the content? No new ground covered, no revelation, same recycled narratives, uses cliches in attempt to sound smart, and never any actionable recommendations. Terrible.
Bravo Lyn Alden! What a sharp mind. I drank in her every word and idea. Thank you, Lyn, for sharing your understanding of macro economics and the financial markets so generously. Tom, please have her on again!💙
I used to follow the financial world like it was a sport. Then I realized it’s more like an episode of Bold and the Beautiful where you can stop watching for 3 months and come back to it and all the characters are still in the same scene and you haven’t missed anything…
That’s a perfect analogy
What’s the worst is it’s pretty much over so it’s just been on reruns for like 50 years
Literally same.
LMAO well put

European here, lived in the US for years. The US is agressively sacrifying the next generations in the altar of profits for the very few. Fear of violence? People are worse off than ever and some will eventually break under too much pressure. That seems to be the plan, otherwise why so much self-inflicted damage? Imagine an alternative reality with increased revenue via higher, fair, progressive taxation, including capital and corporate. Regulation of parasitic financial and corporate practices. Budgets focused on real issues. A public healthcare system that saves billions of dollars. Don’t demonize social capitalism so quickly. It’s actually cheaper and a lot less traumatic to help people stay in the middle class than to deal with the problems of widespread poverty and social unrest.
Who will buy goods and services? Seems self defeating to blow away the middle class. Perhaps big business can sell goods and services to the rest of the world.
The UK is worse
It’s a grand plan, but there are so many selfish people at the top… These weak leaders will CREATE HARD TIMES!
@DWbo-r7vNot quite, we still have access to health services. I can’t imagine living in a society that would allow people to die of curable diseases because they don’t have enough money.
Inflated home prices only help you if you want to sell your house. If you want to live in it, higher prices only increase your property tax and your insurance so that is not really helping you.
But you can borrow against it to buy another house.

I think the overly regressive tax policy is also part of the problem.
I always said this about Lyn since watching her for several years. She at some point, should be the Fed Chairman or Treasury Secretary. She has this brilliance and the demeanor to testify in front of an inept congress.
I have said the exact same thing! She is both very intelligent and very apolitical. She doesn’t let emotion guide her, she simply states the facts and explains them in a way that’s digestible for the average person.
Excuse me, but social security is NOT an entitlement. People pay into it during their working life, and congress was supposed to invest it…
