Godfather of AI: They Keep Silencing Me But I’m Trying to Warn Them!

He pioneered AI, now he’s warning the world. Godfather of AI Geoffrey Hinton breaks his silence on the deadly dangers of AI no one is prepared for.

Geoffrey Hinton is a leading computer scientist and cognitive psychologist, widely recognised as the ‘Godfather of AI’ for his pioneering work on neural networks and deep learning. He received the 2018 Turing Award, often called the Nobel Prize of computing. In 2023, he left Google to warn people about the rising dangers of AI.

He explains:
◽️ Why there’s a real 20% chance AI could lead to HUMAN EXTINCTION.
◽️ How speaking out about AI got him SILENCED.
◽️ The deep REGRET he feels for helping create AI.
◽️ The 6 DEADLY THREATS AI poses to humanity right now.

  1. as a plumber, the first ten seconds of this video make me happy… { thanks for all the positive responses 😂 }

    1. You rely on middle class white collar workers to engage and pay for your services. This will impact you indirectly as most of your market evaporates and your wages are pushed into the dirt from all the new plumbers

    2. ok…. theres an increase of plumbers in the world. would that push the wages of plumbers up or down???

  2. Question – do you like these types of convos? If so please hit the like button on the vid – that’s the best way to let us know ❤ (also, would be doing me a big favour if you could subscribe & join our community 🙏🏾🥲) I appreciate you – SB!

    1. Rules and regulations always seem to apply to some, while others revel in their own unchecked nonsense. The only way to truly keep AI in check is paradoxically through no centralised control—because only then does power remain balanced.

    2. The fact you used AI for this is a fail. Thumbs down…super lame of you.

    3. It’s great that others speak about the dangers of AI we need more people to start seeing it and think of solutions instead of trusting every single thought and making it better.

  3. My son has had a theory for years that making an AI to think like a human was dangerous. Instead he wanted us to make an AI that thinks like a “DOG” so it loved humans and wanted to serve us.

    1. the problem with this is a Dog with an incompetent owner is still a dog, and dogs can bite back.

    2. but both can be done. teach them 2424 language and everything changes.
FYI, that allows you to set boundaries at a deep emotional level. like raising good dogs!

    3. I had this sort of convo with chat gpt and we came to the same conclusion! Alas Ben10smith is correct. I’m yet to watch this video but I reckon that if it comes to our extinction it will be always humans behind it, not AI. It’s up to AI’s owners what it will do, and up to the rest of us how discerning we will be with using it/or it using us. Too bad most humans are feckin morons. But, at least it won’t be a great loss if we destroy ourselves. Pity about the dogs though. They are the only worthy thing in our world..

    4. I beleive we can learn a lot from dogs, but unfortunately at end of day us humans are the big issue.

    1. we really do need more plumbers because the numpties we have now really suck at it …

    2. A bit of coding know-how will come in handy as a plumber. After all you want to prevent leaks.

  4. It’s almost as if we have 40+ years of TV, films and books warning us of the dangers of AI.

    1. It was not a warning just entertainment, created to keep your attention because your attention makes money for the creators. Ah.. sigh… money, makes the world go round, right?

    2. Yep it was Wall-i that did it for me, I knew something was up, then everything now is so reminiscent of that movie

    3. Yesh they said the same thing about the climate. Im 50….we Are supposed to be under water now.

  5. I am a Software Dev. The industry already changed. I spent years perfecting my craft, and now everybody can code with just a prompt. I am going into environmental work like lawncare. And beekeeping. Screw technology.

    1. this is the thing in software – years and years of perfecting the craft which now means absolutely nothing.

    2. We’re better humans for learning logical languages. The fear is whether we will stop valueing humans that have bettered themselves, those who can reason 10-50% more than the baseline, or better in other categories, as well.

This is an existential threat to humanity, not just a haha stupid dev get wrecked threat.

Feel free to take comfort in the entire world needing to flip their paradigm

  6. I feel like turning off all power to my house and reading a book by candle light.

    1. Its wild to me people fail to see the fact AI can and will become more intelligent than us. Its so god darn obvious. This isn’t a surprise its mathematical certainty. Only uncertainty is will the AI be in control or us.

    2. do it out of fear, out of curiosity, out of whatever. just do it. turning off the computers and read the book made from paper is good for you.

  7. 2010s: Learn to code
    2020s: Learn to weld
2030s: Learn to survive in the woods

    1. The government wont allow AI to take over…. Who’s going to pay the taxes lol. Where everyone is on benefits the government wont want that.

    2. More or less this is the future, to live in and with nature and to grow our own food, not living in congested and dirty cities, everything is a cycle.

  8. I’ll always think of the quote from Jurassic Park.
” You spent so much time seeing if you could, you never stopped to think if you should .”

    1. The scary part is that everyone is racing just to be ahead of each other so there’s no way option for “shouldn’t”. Everyone knows we shouldn’t!

    2. Agreed. There is a long running theme of cautions about science fighting with the egos of scientists (ex. Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein).

    3. No, we thought about that too.
This type of luddite behavior is why we pushed history ahead by fifty years this decade.

    4. I feel however that this is all speaks back to human nature. We can’t seem to have self control on these kinda of self destructive behavior. 🤷‍♀️

  9. Dude is so calm ’cause he’s at the end of his life but most of us are really screwed

    1. You just created a war machine against the people they are never gonna have equality wake up

  10. As a nurse, everyone’s last regret is not spending more time with their loved ones.

    1. hey, i’ve read that in a book … where you the nurse they referenced? 😀

  11. The problem is – if everyone else loses their jobs: nobody can afford the plumber.

    1. What’s funny is that Reagan turned us into the consumerism society. These billionaires forget that we make them rich 😭

    2. @@janeping12who’s gonna pay the plumber if there’s only plumbers and jobless people lol that’s the issue

    1. I started hating AI when i saw people started losing their jobs. Now it’s even more scarier and future terrifies me

    2. @@Intz51 a future where everything is possible or we destroy the universe? nothing scary

  12. “We no longer have a shared reality”. Wow. I never thought about this. Just that alone is crazy.

    1. If that’s your jump off I’m glad.

But buddy we haven’t had a shared reality since 9/11.

      At least as Americans.

As far as the World goes. The only shared reality is:

      Fresh water.

      Fresh food.

And a common goal to reach those two things.

Culturally. The only other thing we share is spirituality in a general sense.

That also diverges into madness as well.

    2. To be fair, that has been the case between population of different countries, but yes now that’s the case even between people living in the same home, everyone, which yeah is a very crazy thought I thought also ~

    3. Since social media…we lost shared reality…from pandemics 2020 high rates of divorce in all the world…

  13. Not a plumber: a farmer. Get a plot of land and figure out how to grow your own food, get a few solar panels and a battery, a water source and recycling system. I think becoming self sufficient in meeting one’s basic human needs is important.

    1. This. Moved myself and my family to a location where this is possible. We don’t have money to buy land and market gardening isn’t a viable business in the current economic climate, but I’ve made friends with land owners, taught myself the skills, and got seeds stockpiled (I rotate them as they don’t last for ever). It’s the best I can do for now 🤷

    2. Correct. I use to be a graphic artist. Now I’m growing my own business. I still take the photos muself and edit it, do the layout but I do ask Meta AI to polish my copyriting.

    3. Sounds good, but what will you do when hungry people come to steal your food and water?

  14. This is happening too soon and nobody can stop it. Selwyn Raithe really told the truth about everything but nobody is taking it seriously. I cannot believe what I’ve read in his book 12 Last Steps I’m traumatized a lot now and the scariest part is that some of his claimes are right and are happening right now

    1. Don’t be scared of their projection, there is more than one path that reality can take

    2. @@RobertCohanim-h5inot if it has to do with the rich and the greedy we are already know what path this is going to take like I said we are all going to be living underground like rodents

    3. by the way.. the law of attraction is a pseudo science …and its related to magic and demons

  15. The biggest question for these big businesses is “who is going to buy their goods and services, if their customers are replaced by AI at their employment places and obviously have no disposable income?

    1. They don’t need you to buy anything if they have all the money. The customers will just disappear. AI will be everyones best friend, adding that to no one having money, birth rate will decrease a lot

    2. Exactly! Less jobs = Less consumerism ! Its not making sense from Market perspective. Hope it turns out well for Himanity

    3. @@PedroGoncalves-dt5xu customers cannot disappear. You need to sell your product to someone to get money flowing to you. If population is unemployed there is no source of income for anyone. So universal basic income or war or pandemics, or all together is our future

    1. @@Jadzo87depends on definition.
Studies show that the biggest models already are self aware in the sense of they know whether you are in an private Environment, Corporate or testing.

Given that thought – in my opinion IT IS very much concious of itself.

    2. @@jurk4-i6jabsolutely it could be said they are concious of self. But conciousness like..dreams, inspiration, fears, ego, persona, shadow….how do we program what we dont understand ? I put it to you…that those doing the programming have no idea of inner workings of humans. And someone that understand humans well, has not a care in the world for a.i

Kinda like a natural barrier…ying and yang maybe. Also i believe humans to be true gods…making anything else no matter what….far less.
